Inauguration of the exhibition "From Darwin to the Antarctic Scientific Basis: Experience of Spanish researchers in Antarctica (26/01/2010)

The exhibition consists of shows from various scientific photographs and video presentations and implementation of interventions by the UMU researchers who participated in the 2008-2009 Antarctic campaign.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Torre Pacheco, Daniel García Madrid and the coordinator of the exhibition and research in Antarctica, Michael Motes.

In this exhibition aims to show several videos and scientific photographs.

In turn you will be making presentations by researchers from the University of Murcia who have participated in the Antarctic campaign 2008/2009.

Such experiences illustrate the Antarctic interventions whose starting point is the Beagle Channel to coincide with the journey undertaken by Darwin in the vicinity of Ushuaia.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, Michael Pilling will speak at the Municipal Library of Torre-Pacheco at 12:30 hours.

The first aim of this exhibition is to encourage dissemination activities and communication of science to society, telling an Antarctic scientific experience in first person by its protagonists.

This objective is intended to cover delving into the personality and biography of Darwin, from the human standpoint and from the scientific point of view.

It seeks to increase public awareness of both Darwin and his theory of evolution as research work in Antarctica and the characteristics of the continent, which can promote scientific vocations.

The exhibit will remain until January 29 in the Exhibition Hall of the Municipal Library of Torre-Pacheco
