Since 1997, every October 24 marks the Day of the Library.

The proposal arises from the Spanish Association of Friends of Children and Youth, supported by the Ministry of Culture, in memory of the destruction of the Library of Sarajevo, burned in 1992 during the Balkan conflict.

The initiative began to move to the public the importance of the library as a meeting place for readers of all ages with the culture, and as a means of improving training and human coexistence.
