This morning the IMSAS (Instituto Municipal Service for Social Action of the City of Torre-Pacheco) and SODITOR have signed a collaboration agreement to develop a program to prevent childhood obesity and diabetes which has as its objective is to promote healthy eating to prevent obesity and diseases such as type II diabetes and more broadly the metabolic syndrome, providing parents with tools to educate their children in the acquisition of healthy lifestyles.
The agreement, 2,000 â‚¬, was signed by Daniel García Madrid, Mayor of Torre Pacheco, and Jose Sanchez Sung, President of SODITOR.
The "healthy breakfast" has been underway since 2007 in schools in the municipality funded in part by the Ministry of Health of the Autonomous Region of Murcia with the call for grants to local authorities to carry out programs Promotion of Healthy Eating for the prevention of overweight, obesity and diabetes.
First we carried out an information campaign by distributing leaflets with information about how to be a healthy breakfast and how the attitude of parents in the acquisition of certain food-related behaviors.
It referred to the importance of breakfast to cognitive performance, including a weekly breakfast for the school, as well as recommendations for a healthy diet according to age.
Activity has continued with the realization of a healthy breakfast for parents and children of 1 Primary Education schools in the municipality who held a canteen service.
After breakfast, the children returned to their classes and parents attended a talk on healthy eating given by a diploma in diet and nutrition.
In this campaign has attracted 708 children and 198 parents.
