On March 9, the 5th Philosophical Olympiad was held at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Murcia.
This year, the theme chosen for all of Spain and for the four modes of participation (dissertation, moral dilemma, photography and video) has been "Revolution and Utopia".
Students of the Luis Manzanares Institute have won several prizes and mentions in this edition.
Simranjit Singh has won the first prize in "Moral Dilemma", and will represent Murcia in the V National Olympiad to be held on May 4 and 5 in Extremadura.
Vicente Pedreño was the second prize in "Dissertation";
Inmaculada Da Silva and Rebeca Barceló have been finalists in "Dilema Social" and "Fotografía" respectively.
The teachers responsible for guiding and guiding the students in their work are David Rubio, Dionisio Espejo and Antonio Sánchez.
The Philosophical Olympiad of Spain (OFE) was born in 2013, promoted by several associations and Olympics of regional scope, and promoted by a group of professors of philosophy, both high school and university.
In addition, the OFE is the result of accumulated experience and a process of coordination of activities that for years have been encouraging high school students to start in the exercise of philosophical reflection.
In this sense, it is about giving visibility and public recognition to a series of school practices that are inherent in the teaching of philosophy itself, since secondary school students have often been in a position to write a philosophical essay, discuss with their colleagues argumentative way or discuss a moral dilemma in class.
In short, the Philosophical Olympiad in Spain aims to be a meeting place for all students and for all teachers who want to make the exercise of free thinking not a mere school obligation, but rather a way of life.
The 5th Philosophical Olympiad in Spain is celebrated in Extremadura, on May 4 and 5, and the theme chosen for this Olympiad in all its forms (philosophical dissertation, moral dilemma, photography and video) is "Revolution and Utopia".
