Our founder, Sebastián Escudero, would be proud of the steps that the Festival de Cante Flamenco de Lo Ferro continues to give.
Step by step was his dictation and so we continue, climbing steps and growing steadily, making our festival one of the most important in the world with the effort of all components of our team.
In the year of its thirty-ninth edition and thanks to the request of the deputy of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Antonio Guillamón, the support of the Regional Assembly has been obtained to support the Torre Pacheco City Council and the Peña Flamenca 'Melón de Oro' in the processing to obtain the declaration of National Tourist Interest of the International Flamenco Festival of Lo Ferro.
At present our flamenco festival, is declared of Regional Tourist Interest, "but its repercussion in the flamenco field, which has made it become the third most important Flamenco Festival in Spain, to which cantaores and cantaoras from all over the national territory to qualify for the Melón de Oro Award, makes him worthy of the distinction of National Tourist Interest ".
Guillamón demanded that the regional government carry out, as quickly as possible, the corresponding procedures for the achievement of this recognition.
The socialist deputy argued that the International Festival of Flamenco Cante de Lo Ferro "is an event that has been maturing and growing since 1980 was held for the first time, when organized a contest for amateur singing included in the fiestas ferreñas".
Since then, numerous artists of recognized prestige have participated, leaving evidence of the importance of the Festival, nationally and internationally.
The International Festival of Flamenco Cante de Lo Ferro has become a great event of the flamenco arts, "with an important impact, which serves to grant greater public knowledge and an authentic consecration of the artists who achieve the distinction of the Melón Prize of Gold".
Antonio Guillamón defended that the implantation of the Festival in the national panorama, even international, is beyond doubt.
"The effort and enthusiasm of its predecessors have made it a benchmark of flamenco and a must for lovers of this artistic discipline."
The Socialist deputy added that the International Flamenco Festival of Lo Ferro contributes to the promotion and diffusion of flamenco, as a sign of its commitment to an art that has been considered an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and facilitates meeting points to enjoy this universal art.
"We hope that the regional government streamlines the procedures, so that the festival can count on the recognition of National Tourist Interest next year, coinciding with its 40th anniversary," he concluded.
