[The interior patio of the new Town Hall takes the name of Mr. Julián Pagán López (05/04/2021)

The plenary session of the Torre Pacheco City Council on March 25 unanimously adopted the agreement to name the interior patio of the new Town Hall with the name of Mr.

Julián Pagán López whose life, career and cultural concerns have always been closely linked to the activities of the City Council and the social and cultural impulse of Torre Pacheco. Born in Fortuna, Mr.

Pagán came to Torre Pacheco in the early 1940s as a municipal official.

He was also director of the Band of Music in 1943, in addition to being the composer of the hymn to the Virgen del Rosario.

For more than 50 years he was in charge of the parish organ, being a pianist in movie theaters and spas and a collaborator in artistic events, accompanying stars like Lola Flores.

He developed music theory and piano teaching, voluntarily and altruistically, for many young people in the town and co-founded the old Local Radio station. His memory can be remembered inside the new municipal headquarters, since it was the institution to which he dedicated his entire professional career, in addition to being a space with elements that were part of his daily experiences, such as those that were located in the Town Hall Square, since ornamental elements have recently been moved, which were located for 35 years in front of the old Town Hall, relocating them inside the new administrative building, specifically in the interior patio that forms the lateral access from the Juan León Street, for the attention of the public of different municipal services. Among these elements, the central ciborium of the fountain stands out, inaugurated in 1955 to commemorate the arrival of the waters coming from the Taibilla River, through the Mancomunidad de Canales created in 1927 and which provided water supply to the Region of Murcia and half south of the province of Alicante, thus assuming the household supply of running water for human consumption.

This fountain was dismantled in 1990 due to the remodeling of the square, as well as the benches of the same material, of which six of them have also been recovered and exposed, in the absence of restoration and sanitation. These placed pieces lack historical or artistic interest, but they do have a true sentimental character for all the pachequeros, assuming an icon to endure over time given the endearing and recurrent nature of this source in all kinds of events and memories. function { ;(, , {});}
