The boys and girls of Torre Pacheco call for action against climate change (20/11/2020)

Today, November 20, the Day of the Rights of the Child is celebrated, commemorating the Convention on the Rights of the Child approved by the United Nations on such a day as today in 1989.In addition to the rights to have their vital needs covered such as health, nutrition, or protection against abuse, the Convention recognizes the right of children to freely express their opinions and that these be taken into account in all matters that affect them.Due to the necessary prevention measures due to the pandemic, the Municipal Council for Children and Adolescents of Torre Pacheco has been forced to temporarily suspend its face-to-face activity, as well as the plenary sessions that it had been holding. However, a representation of the children of the Torre Pacheco Council, within the framework of the #AMiYoDel 2030 campaign, wanted to join the proposal of the VI State Meeting of Child and Adolescent Participation Councils to address, from their own point of view In view, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that directly affect Health and the Environment and are related to the health crisis that we have been suffering in recent months. This campaign tries to make visible the opinion of the youngest regarding the SDGs and what solutions they propose to achieve them and thus achieve a fairer, more inclusive and more sustainable society.Specifically, the group of boys and girls from Torre Pacheco that has been working in the last three weeks has decided to focus on SDG 13 Climate Action, expressing their opinion on what their City Council should do to achieve this Goal, and also contributing proposals of what children and adolescents can do to fight against climate change. The result of this work is a Manifesto that is presented today and in which young people from outside the Council have also collaborated. Finally, in commemoration of Children's Rights Day and as a symbol of the recognition of Torre Pacheco, Ciudad Amiga de la Infancia, the square of the Autonomous Communities will be illuminated in blue
