"Libraries, always by your side", Torre Pacheco celebrates Library Day (24/10/2020)

Today October 24, Torre Pacheco celebrates Library Day, and adheres, as every year, to programming events that demand the attention of library readers on this day.

The Torre Pacheco Municipal Public Library has organized a program of activities adapted to the new situation, focused on highlighting the important role that libraries play by offering access to culture, knowledge and entertainment in any place and circumstance."With the celebration of this day it is intended to spread the existence of an important public service of proximity to the citizen, which contributes effectively to facilitate access to knowledge to all citizens, a recognition of their work to promote reading and encourage activities creative ", has expressed the Councilor for Culture, Raúl Lledó."We want to value the capacity that our centers have shown, to continue offering their services in such complex circumstances derived from the health crisis of COVID19", Lledó pointed out, recognizing the great effort made by librarians to adapt to new needs of users and continue to develop their work, even from home.The Municipal Public Library of Torre Pacheco, has wanted to remember that we are in the year of Galdós, celebrating his centenary and paying tribute with the reading of one of his stories Where is my head ?, made by the participants of the Reading Club of the Torre Pacheco Library and Radio.

The making of the children's short story "Mother Earth", by its author Jasmina Martínez, and the virtual award ceremony of the XXVII Villa de Torre Pacheco Narrations Contest and the IX Short Story Contest are the activities programmed to commemorate Library Day .The adaptation of the scheduled activities to the current situation, as Lledó has pointed out, makes the traditional award ceremony of the Villa de Torre Pacheco Short Story Contest and the Micro-story Contest in this year's 2020 edition, sharing the act through the social networks of the Municipal Public Library and the Torre Pacheco City Council.
