They promote a project to recover school gardens destroyed by the September floods (07/04/2020)

The reconstruction project will allow the ecological garden of the Al-kazar school to be started again.

The irrigation system will be repaired and the land will be conditioned so that schoolchildren can grow vegetables again.

Seipasa, a Spanish company specialized in the development and formulation of biopesticides, biostimulants and fertilizers for agriculture, and Agroquímicos Torre-Pacheco, distributor of plant protection products in the Community of Murcia, have promoted a project to recover the ecological school garden of the public school Al -kazar, located in the town of Los Alcázares, Murcia.

The floods caused by the heavy rains of last September severely affected the irrigation system and the trees in the facilities, which remained unused for the students.

The reconstruction project will allow this space to be started up again through the repair and modernization of the automatic irrigation system and all the electrovalves of the sprinklers.

The land on which the schoolchildren will again grow organic vegetables will also be installed and conditioned.

For Juan Manuel López, director of marketing for Seipasa, the recovery of the school garden is an essential project for children to learn to recognize the role of agriculture in society.

"This is a values education project that aims for children to learn why our primary sector is so important. Murcia is one of the most important fruit and vegetable production areas in Spain. It is essential that the youngest, the new generation that is coming from behind, understand and appreciate the value of agriculture in our day to day, especially from the point of view of sustainability and respect for the environment, which are two of the pillars of the Seipasa Natural Technology model, "he assured. López.

Agriculture and education in values

José Manuel Saura, commercial director of Agroquímicos Torre-Pacheco, stressed that the project will serve to recover a space of education and training of the school that had been out of use for students.

"The companies must be socially responsible and give back to society part of what it contributes to us. This project advances in this direction. The Al-kazar school is an ecological garden, so our objective is that agriculture, as well as healthy and sustainable food are part of the set of values provided by education at school, "said José Manuel Saura.

Marina Gema Gárate, head of studies at the Al-kazar school and councilor for education at the Los Alcázares City Council, thanked Seipasa and Agroquímicos Torre-Pachecho for their involvement in this project and highlighted the relevant role that the organic garden plays in the activities of the school.

At the Al-kazar public school, about 250 students study in kindergarten and primary school.

The reconstruction works of the school garden began on March 12, although they have had to be interrupted due to the exceptional measures decreed by the Government to stop the advance of Covid-19.

It should be remembered that the heavy rains registered last September caused significant damage in various parts of the southeast coast, especially in the Valencian Community, Almería and Murcia.

In the town of Los Alcázares, 292 liters per square meter were collected.

According to municipal sources, the economic losses caused by those rains exceeded 100 million euros.
