The Municipal Council for Children and Adolescents of Torre Pacheco defends animal welfare (02/12/2019)

The event, chaired by the mayor of Torre Pacheco, Antonio León, was attended by the Councilor for Citizen Participation and Transparency, María Valentina López, along with the 2nd Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Finance and Communication, Carlos López, the 3rd Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Public Safety, Rosalía Rosique, the 4th Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Emergencies and New Technologies, Juan Salvador Sánchez, the Councilor for Environment and Heritage, José Vera, the Councilor for Education and Young Spaces, Francisco Sáez, and the Councilor of Sports and Health, Oscar Montoya, and also attended the councilor of the Municipal Corporation, Joaquín Navarro.

In this Plenary, 13 of the 28 children who make up the Council took possession as new Directors:

Pablo Jorquera, from IES Gerardo Molina, Hamza Azzouzout and Anas Bouhabba, from IES Sabina Mora, Sofía Sola, from the Pasico II, Walid Belaziz and Helena Cánovas, from Hernández Ardieta, Lola Meroño, from El Alba, Claudia Conesa, from CRA Entretierras, Juan Pedro Pedreño, from Nuestra Señora del Rosario, Diego Inglés, from Fontes, Carmen Atienza, from Garre Alpáñez, and Rocío Moreno, from Nuestra Señora de los Dolores.

After a fierce vote in which the 12 members of the councilors and counselors were elected as candidates for the Presidency of the Council, the IES student Luis Manzanares Vaitiare Arroyo was elected as the new president of the council, while the student of the Virgen del Pasico center, Laureano Ros, He was elected Vice President.

The members of the Council gave an account of the response offered by the Department of Social Services and Immigration to the recommendations and proposals to prevent and address discrimination based on ethnicity, gender, religion or sexual orientation, as agreed by the Council in plenary from June 29.

Next, the girls and boys of the Council discussed and approved seven of the eight proposals taken to the Plenary to prevent and fight against discrimination based on ethnicity, gender, religion or sexual orientation, proposals that had previously been agreed by their partners in each of the Educational Centers of Torre Pacheco:

1. "Develop awareness actions for animal care and welfare";

2. "Guarantee the basic feeding and shelter needs of the animals that are in the municipality";

3. "Pursue animal abuse";

4. "Build and improve existing dog parks";

5. "Take care of the feeding of animals on livestock farms";

6. "Ensure the health of animals by: regulating fireworks to avoid exposing pets to noise; vaccination and separation of animals to prevent uncontrolled reproduction; enabling a service and number of veterinary emergencies 24 hours a day ";

7. "Create a nursery or temporary residence for animals".

8. "Promote the care of animals in their natural habitat by creating a viewpoint in the Cabezo Gordo".

9. Ensure the good treatment of animals by promoting the obligation that pet owners must pass a psychological test.

These nine proposals will also be presented this week on the Citizen Participation website of the City Council of Torre Pacheco.

Then, the Councilors chose by majority the "Gender Violence" as a topic to be addressed by the children in the schools during the second quarter of the 2019-2020 academic year.

Once the problems and proposals for improvement on this issue have been discussed and agreed upon in each Center, the main proposals will be presented and voted at the next Plenary Session of the Council, which will take place in March 2020.
