The general director of Cultural Property, Rafael Gómez, delivered today to the mayor of Torre Pacheco, Antonio León, the 'Topographic Map of the estate of Don Francisco Melgarejo', dated April 30, 1872, after being restored in the Restoration Workshop of the General Archive of the Region of Murcia.
The General Archive launched a campaign for the restoration of municipal-owned documents last year and the one delivered today is a plan printed on paper, made with mechanical pulp of poor quality wood and large format, measuring 169 cm high by 120 wide.
The state of conservation of the plan, as Rafael Gómez pointed out, âwas very badâ, due to a series of factors that have influenced its deterioration, such as the manufacture of paper itself, the environmental degradation it has suffered (including humidity, temperature and light) and a previous restoration.
The restoration treatment was carried out after a period of analytical tests necessary to be able to safely determine the damage and its possible treatments.
The restoration process consisted in the elaboration of an identification card, initial photographs, complete elimination of all previous restoration, mechanical cleaning, washing and deacidification, wet cracking, drying, reintegration of lost areas, chromatic reintegration, lamination. , mounting on new frame and final photographs.
