The City Council will request a loan for the rehabilitation of the affected areas and carry out works that reduce the effects of floods (26/09/2019)

The City of Torre Pacheco is preparing to apply for a millionaire loan with the aim of being able to undertake the rehabilitation of buildings and public roads, as well as other investments that improve the drainage of the areas most affected by the floods of September 13, with the objective of minimizing the effects of possible avenues that may occur in the future.

The Councilor for Finance and Communication, Carlos López, has indicated that he has already requested a prior report from the Municipal Treasury to define the economic scope of the loan, its budgetary impact, as well as the procedure for contracting it.

The City Council will carry out an open process so that different financial entities can attend it, with the objective of obtaining the best conditions in the payment of interest, taking into account the current good financial situation of the session, which has amortized 20 million euros of debt in the last 4 years.

The works carried out will be considered Financially Sustainable Investments (IFS), thanks to the decree declaring catastrophic zone issued by the Government of Spain last Friday, and the City Council intends to obtain financing as soon as possible to carry out a Special Works Plan , in whose rehabilitation projects the urban planning technicians have been working for a week.

"We wait for the quantification of the technicians to establish a definitive figure, but we will go to the maximum allowed by law if necessary in order to make possible the reconstruction and the implementation of investments that reduce the impacts of the floods", has indicated Lopez.

At present, the City Council has a debt capacity of around 15 million euros.

The Mayor of Torre Pacheco, Antonio León, has pointed out the need for the implementation of investments also by other administrations.

According to León, "the City Council will carry out its work and carry out the works that the neighbors demand, although a plan is necessary in the Region that contributes to create the necessary hydraulic infrastructures, which prevent the terrible situation to which Torre Pacheco and neighboring municipalities have been exposed again. "

León has also declared that "all our efforts are put in reconstruction and in solving the problems. We will meet with the administrations and also with those affected to listen to their demands and transfer them to the corresponding agencies, being clear that the neighbors, together, we are stronger.
