The painter Pedro Juan Rabal toured "La Mujer y el Flamenco" at his new exhibition at Torre Pacheco (19/07/2019)

The councilman of Culture, Raúl Lledó, accompanied by Mariano Escudero, president of the Peña Flamenca Melón de Oro, the painter Pedro Juan Rabal, and members of the Municipal Corporation have inaugurated the exhibition «Women and Flamenco», which can be seen in the Municipal Library until next August 30.

On the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of the International Flamenco Festival of Lo Ferro, dedicated to women, the aquiline artist wanted to pay homage in his canvases to the matriarchs of flamenco, especially the cantaoras and bailaoras, recognizing various women who have influenced the history and development of this art, declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010.

Twentieth century icons such as Lola Flores, Carmen Amaya and Paquera de Jerez, artists still active as Sara Baras, Encarnación Fernández and Blanca del Rey;

and artists from the early years of flamenco, such as Telethusa, are some of the flamenco women that make up a painting exhibition that can be seen for two months, until next August 30.

The brush of Pedro Juan Rabal has managed to stop the strumming of the guitar, the flutter of heels, castanets and gowns, and capture the spirit of flamenco with its characteristic, dynamic style and playing with texture and color.

The exhibition is made up of about thirty canvases of medium and large format, and besides the women of flamenco, it has the presence of some male artists closely linked to this art, such as Camarón de la Isla or Paco de Lucía.

Pedro Juan Rabal (Águilas, 1988) is considered one of the painters with the greatest projection in the Region of Murcia.

Among other works, he was the author of the first poster of the International Carnival of Eagles (2016), and has developed different activities in the International Festival Cante de las Minas during the last years;

He has also held numerous solo exhibitions in different parts of the Spanish geography.

Among its main themes, besides Flamenco Art, are the sea, fishing, daily life and traditional festivities, having acquired a style of its own that, although it is constantly evolving, is turning its scenes into works that are very recognizable and appreciated by the spectators.
