The Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Transport and Housing, Pedro Saura, accompanied by the Mayor of Torre Pacheco, Antonio León, presented last Saturday, March 2, at the City Council of Torre Pacheco, the improvement project for the railway station of Torre Pacheco, for a value of 800,000 euros.
The actions contemplate the improvement of the urbanization and the architectural set of the station, with an estimated budget of 800,000 euros.
The project for the execution of the works is in drafting, and it is expected to start work in the first quarter of 2020, informed Saura.
The whole of the station is composed of a passenger building, two buildings of railway facilities, a stand of old toilets on the main platform, a railway ship, currently in disuse, and the platforms, one main next to the passenger building and another of central character.
An intervention that modernizes the interior and exterior spaces of the station, in order to improve the traveler's experience in their arrivals and departures.
According to Saura, a new access to the station will be created, under the premises of universal accessibility, connecting the urban outer space with the passenger and platform building.
This piece of access will be designed to provide greater identity to the whole and presence in the current urban scene of the station, in addition to the development of new areas of stay, equipped with banks and trees.
Likewise, the existing parking spaces will be rearranged in front of the station, with the aim of improving the ordering of the space and traffic conditions, a bicycle parking will also be installed next to the passenger building.
In addition, a new perimeter enclosure of the station will be installed, generating a homogeneous image throughout the entire station and improving the visual permeability between the exterior and the interior of the enclosure.
On the other hand, a new parking for users of the station will be enabled, with an approximate capacity for 20 vehicles and reserved seats for people with reduced mobility, and a large vegetable garden will be created between the parking and the main platform, capable of collecting the existing large grove.
Likewise, in the passenger building an integral interior reform will be undertaken, including the demolition of the existing home, with the aim of expanding and generating a space for the most optimal traveler.
In this way, a new distribution will be made to generate a waiting area, a large vestibule, toilets adapted to people with reduced mobility and a wider and more permeable ticket office.
The latest technological advances in passenger information systems will also be introduced and the exterior facades will be rehabilitated.
On the other hand, the existing pavement will be renewed on the platforms, signaling bands will be included on the edges and the safety in the passage of non-slip rubber between platforms will be improved.
It will also include loudspeaker and more lighting, and will contemplate the possibility of creating a waiting space on the central platform.
The mayor of Torre Pacheco, recalled the continuous demands from the Consistory for the adequacy of the Railway Station, appreciating this important investment and assessing the project of reform of the station, which the Secretary of State presented at Torre Pacheco, before neighbors and members of the Municipal Corporation.
