The Library obtains Torre-Pacheco Maria Moliner award for best project to encourage reading (28/10/2014)

"The fascination of the words" of the Municipal Library of Torre-Pacheco has won the special prize for the best project Maria Moliner animation to reading municipalities between 20,000 and 50,000 inhabitants, 12.000 euros destined for the library and funded Coca-Cola Foundation.

Next to the Library Torre-Pacheco have been awarded the Library of Soto del Barco de Asturias (in the category of municipalities with less than 5000 inhabitants) and the library of Fuente el Saz de Jarama in Madrid (in the municipal category between 5000 and 20,000).

They have received special mentions Lobón City Library (less than 5,000), the Municipal Library of Ermua (5,001 and 20,000), and the Municipal Library Almudena Grandes Azuqueca de Henares (from 20,001 to 50,000 inhabitants).

The selection process was carried out by analyzing a number of criteria: takes into account the clarity and focus of the project for reading entertainment, good planning and feasibility, as well as originality and immersion in new technologies containing the proposal.

In addition, the Evaluation Committee of the XV Campaign Encouraging Reading Maria Moliner, convened by the Ministry of Education, the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), and the Coca-Cola Foundation, have been selected among 608, the 300 best projects promoting reading presented by municipal libraries throughout Spain.

Those selected will each receive a batch of 180 titles.

The Ministry of Education funds this award with a budget of 640,000 euros.

The list of 300 selected will be announced in a few days, when the award procedure is complete.

Campaign Encouraging Reading Maria Moliner told throughout all editions over 11,000 projects submitted and more than 2,500 participating municipalities.

More than 50 percent of the 4,526 municipalities of less than 50,000 people have attended sometime this initiative.

More than three decades after the birth of this initiative, the Campaign Encouraging Reading Maria Moliner remains present throughout Spain, and continues to demonstrate that all steps are valid regardless of the number of people who have the proposed locations.

Villarino Ricardo Calvo, Deputy Director of Education and Culture of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces;

Juan José Litrán, director of the Coca-Cola Foundation;

Beatriz Arribas, project manager of the Coca-Cola Foundation;

Unai Arano Cuevas, coach of the Directorate of Cultural Heritage and representative of the Basque Autonomous Community;

César Salinero Bowler, director of the Library of Castilla and Leon, representing the regions of Castilla y Leon;

Maria Angeles Chacon Guzman, head of the Department of Library Outreach Representative Andalusia Andalusia CCAA;

and Angel Rodriguez Vela, official of the Promotion of Reading General Book Promotion Branch.
