The components of the Field School "Sima de las Palomas" visit the Museum of Paleontology and Human Evolution in the Region of Murcia (26/07/2013)

This morning the 25 members that make up the Field School "Sima de las Palomas" of Prehistory and Quaternary Paleontropología the Region of Murcia, have visited the site of the Museum of Paleontology and Human Evolution in the Region of Murcia accompanied by its director Michael Walker and Mayor of Torre Pacheco.

The museum visitors approach the world of paleontology hand of concepts such as geologic time, evolution, extinctions of species or the origin of the Earth and life.

Also, show how to form a fossil, paleontologist work and how a site is excavated.

The building was erected on a plot of the municipality, with a size of 12,000 square meters, located on the road from San Cayetano, and represents an investment of more than six million euros (6. 545. 464) in charge of the Community .

The future museum will have a valuable collection of original fossils, spectacular views of animals and plants and audiovisual resources, made under the scripts proposed by paleontologists and will be distributed throughout the building rooms.

Among the members of the Field School is Gonzalo Linares, the student with the highest mark this year selectivity in the Region of Murcia, and was last year at this school and that made you decide to study Archaeology UK.

This school has provided over the years a unique opportunity for the international youth and collaborators, enthusiastic in finding the roots of Neanderthals in the contexts of scientific practice in the Sima de las Palomas del Cabezo Gordo, important Man site Neanderthal (Homo neanderthalensis) and Paleolithic Mousterian industry of approximately 50,000 years ago.

Each year, Field School outstanding professors and researchers collaborate internationally and have passed through its classrooms students and graduates from all over the country and several EU member states, as well as the U.S., Australia ... etc..

The campaign began last Tuesday, July 23, will last until August 13.
