Day of Road Education in Torre Pacheco (19/09/2017)

As a complement to the delivery of bicycles rehabilitated especially for them, yesterday evening was a playful educational activity for the 12 children belonging to families of refugees, who have been welcomed in the municipality of Torre-Pacheco.

This activity was called I Workshop of Road Education "Knowing to learn, learn to respect", and consisted of a practical class developed by the head of the Department of Education and Road Safety of Torre-Pacheco, Salvador Martinez, with the collaboration of two Civil Protection volunteers Torre-Pacheco, in the Infantile Traffic Park, where the 12 students had the opportunity to know the route of such installation, learn the signage of the same and of course, have fun driving their karts and bicycles.

The activity was attended by the Mayor of Torre-Pacheco, Antonio Leon, the Councilor for Personnel and Local Development, Rosalía Rosique, Councilor for Citizen Security and New Technologies, Mr. Juan Salvador Sánchez, Councilor for Social Services and Equality, Verónica Martínez, Chief Officer of the Local Police of Torre-Pacheco, José Mercader, and the Coordinator of Cepaim in Torre-Pacheco, Juana Ruiz.

The Road Education Workshop was organized in collaboration and at the request of the Cepaim Foundation, through its Torre-Pacheco center.

Cepaim is a promoter of a model of an inclusive and intercultural society that facilitates full access to the citizenship rights of the most vulnerable people in our society and, especially, migrants, developing policies to fight against any form of social exclusion and collaborating in the development of the local territories and the countries of origin of the migrants.

The students participating in the workshop demonstrated great capacity and enthusiasm for learning, with ages between 8 and 13 years old, coming from Spanish-speaking countries such as El Salvador, Colombia and Venezuela, or countries where war forces them to flee their citizens, such as Ukraine, Mauritania or Syria.

At the end of the workshop, the authorities present addressed a welcoming address to these families, offering their collaboration to accelerate the process of adaptation and inclusion in our society of all of them, and each of the kids, gave them a personalized diploma , and various gifts such as t-shirts, caps, reflective bracelets from the Infantile Traffic Park of Torre Pacheco.
