The Councilor for Public Roads, Yolanda Castaño, together with the Traffic Officer, Pepe Nieto, the Public Highway Foreman, Matías Méndez, and the representative of the Teva Group, Manuel Manzano, presented the new vertical and horizontal signage for people with autism and others developmental disabilities, whose placement is being carried out in the municipality of Torre Pacheco. The La Castellana Signaling and Beaconing Company of the Teva Group has a contract to undertake the works that amounts to almost 25,000 thousand euros per year, for two years, extendable for another two years. As the Councilor for Public Roads has commented, projects have been launched to modify the signage of the streets, thanking the work carried out by the Local Police, highlighting the study carried out to select the most appropriate places for the placement of the new signage, agreed with the pediatric mayors and residents of the municipality, to achieve the most appropriate location in each area.In addition, Castaño has reported that thanks to these contracts the Torre Pacheco City Council will have an inventory of the existing horizontal and vertical signage in the municipality of Torre Pacheco, in which the total number of signage and their location will be reported, as well as maintenance cost.As explained by Manuel Manzano, on behalf of the successful bidder, the pictograms are made on the first line of the zebra crossings and will be blue, the color associated with autism.

Noting that four pictograms, drawings that facilitate communication, summarize the steps that must be taken before entering the road: stop (STOP), look (LOOK), check that any nearby car is stopped (CAR STOPPED) and then cross (CROSSES).

Likewise, he highlighted the importance of these pedestrian crossings and the good acceptance that this initiative is having in other municipalities where they already have these pictograms that aim to create easily understood cognitive spaces.According to Castaño, these programs have several messages, the first is that it is designed for people who have an autism spectrum disorder, but it is also a way of teaching the little ones what to do before crossing a pedestrian crossing, in addition allows greater awareness and social sensitization. For his part, Cabo Nieto pointed out that the Local Police Headquarters has proceeded to a study of the entire municipality, to carry out the renewal of signage and traffic reorganization, reiterating that it has been carried out in the 11 districts with which counts the locality.

In addition, he informed that the works are expected to be completed next year.Regarding the new traffic signals, Castaño has pointed out that an inclusive society requires that our streets be enabled for the use of all people, highlighting the importance of the location of these pictograms in the most used pedestrian crossings, and close to schools and municipal spaces.
