Torre Pacheco installs 6 trap points against the tiger mosquito, distributed by the municipality (13/07/2018)

The Ministry of Health, through the General Directorate of Public Health, launches a pioneer system for monitoring the tiger mosquito through an innovative application in which the municipalities provide data on the insect

It is an integrated system that allows surveillance and control plans for the tiger mosquito, which is a vector in the transmission of diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and Zika.

Actions that aim to collect information on the presence of the tiger mosquito to develop an action plan that leads to its eradication.

A surveillance program, based on a computer platform that integrates a geographic information system, a mobile application, which has a laboratory enabled in the Microbiology and Parasitology Service of the Hospital Universitario Virgen de la Arrixaca.

In this laboratory the analyzes of the oviposition traps are carried out, supplied and placed by the municipalities to collect the eggs of the insect.

The municipality of Torre Pacheco has six points in which double traps have been placed, as Javier Escobar, Responsible Technician for Natural Pest Control, has said, coinciding with places where the presence of this especially annoying sting mosquito has been detected. that in recent years progresses on the Spanish Mediterranean side, but notes that there is no need to alarm society, what is intended is to develop a prevention plan, to prevent mosquitoes in each area are a risk to citizens.

Each point will have two ecological traps, consisting of a cylinder surrounded inside by a paper, with a liter of water and three balls of alfalfa that the insect will identify as food being trapped.

Every fifteen days the samples are collected for analysis and study.

The Regional Mosquito Tigre Surveillance System will continue analyzing the samples collected until the heat disappears, and intends to continue next year, expanding the number of traps if necessary.

The mayor of Torre Pacheco, Antonio Leon pointed out that the City Council collaborates with the General Directorate of Public Health, with the collection of samples and the provision of necessary data, reiterating that it is not about alarming the neighbors, that the phase current is data collection, on the presence of the tiger mosquito to develop an action plan that leads to its eradication.
